Brief Profile:   The Centre for Development Studies (CDS) is an autonomous research institute located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. Its main objective is to promote research, teaching and training in disciplines relevant to development. Established in 1971 by the noted economist Professor K.N.Raj, it is considered to be one of the foremost development economics research centers in the country. It has a faculty of about 18. The core activities of the CDS are research, teaching and training. Union Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs Research Unit on International Migration is located at CDS. The union ministry of overseas Indian affairs have established a research unit on international migration at the Centre. The purpose of the Unit is to undertake exclusive studies on dynamics of migration, socio-economic impact of migration in different States of India, occupation-wise migration, remittances, investment and development. These studies will cover a period of five years beginning 2006-07.
