Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI)

Brief Profile:   The Joint Migration and Development Initiative (JMDI) reflects the acceptance of and growing interest in the strong links between Migration and Development (M&D) and aims to support M&D actors to effectively harness the potential of migration for development. This programme is implemented by UNDP. Five agencies – IOM, ILO, UNHCR, UNFPA and UN Women contribute to the programme with their institutional knowledge, expertise and extensive networks to ensure its success. Building on the accomplishments and lessons learned from the first phase of the JMDI (2008-2012), the new phase of the programme, launched on the 1st December, 2012 and funded by the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, focuses on the local level and aims to support local authorities and civil society organizations seeking to effectively link M&D.
