Abstract

The study of the Indo-Caribbean Canadian diaspora literature examinesthematic angles of the literary works of the Indo-Caribbean Canadian writers. The study focuses on the attempts of these literary writers to cope up with theliterary mainstream in Canada, their attempts to sustain their distinct identity andestablish themselves among multicultural identities in Canada.Indo-Caribbean writers in Canada have also adequately contributed to the mainstream literary tradition of Canada. Indo-Caribbean writers in Canada have formed anew body of literature consisting of socio-cultural linguistic duality. Thus, Indo-Caribbean Canadian literature emerges as a distinct body ofliterature. It focuses on the diasporic experience, double displacement andmanifestation of ethno-cultural linguistic duality.

The study of Indo-Caribbean diaspora writers in Canada comprises a history of double migration. Their inner feelings and sense of rootlessness also created problems regarding identity crisis. Moreover, their second migration to Canada infused in them a cultural and gender identity crisis. In the journey of their migration, they faced cultural variance, ethnical discrepancy and socio-political insecurity. The literature of the Indo-Caribbean Canadian diaspora writers presents a kaleidoscopic view of the doubly displaced Indian diaspora community. It reflects various experiences and perceptions of the literary writers during their course of migration and settlement in the adopted country. Literature provided them a proper tool to articulate their inner traumas and frustrated dreams.

The present study aims to analyze the literature of the Indo-Caribbean Canadian diaspora writers. It also inscribes dynamic migratory approach of the Indo-Caribbean Canadian writers and how these writers, despite the sense of double displacement and duality in socio-cultural linguistic aspects, have created a conglomeration with anew multiculturalism in Canada.
